Underneath

It is a town of burials. The church’s silver squirreled into an empty grave to save it from the Bonnie Prince; the river, culverted into a carriageway so the people could flow through. It buries its past in its street names: Lottery Street, Mealhouse Brow, Loonies Court – and the memory of its people marked on its tunnel walls.
